The Bylaws Committee of ACRL-LA has suggested amendments to the bylaws. Members received a copy of the revised bylaws and a copy of the existing bylaws (last revised 2013) by email on November 22 for review. A vote will take place in January.
Here is a summary of the major changes:
Article II:
- Edits to purpose to match the mission we use on our website
Article III:
- Eliminating the lesser-used associate membership, which would be subsumed into full membership, allowing more members to hold office
- Removed section on fee-based publications as we have not offered those for some time
Article V:
- Clarifying “professional librarian” as a qualification for office to include anyone holding a professional position in an academic library
- Added Chapters Council duties to President and VP roles, adding the requirement that those officers must be national members of ACRL to reflect current Chapters Council bylaws
- Added responsibility for elections to VP role, reflecting removal of elections responsibilities from Membership and Elections Committee
- Removed responsibility for mailings from Secretary as this is no longer done
- Added one-year term for Past-President, which has been done in practice, but not in writing
- Added special elections procedure for VP vacancies that occur late in term
- Removed option of multiple people sharing one position in the event of a vacancy
Article VI:
- Created new description, term, and title for Website Administrator/Communications Manager
- Created new description and term for Journal Editor.
Article VII:
- Clarified that President appoints chairs of standing committees and chairs appoint their members, both with approval of executive board
